Plastics films, world situation and outlook

Pardos Marketing has done a study on plastics in the world. The study was completed in 2004, regularly updated. The study is done with a general global approach. However, the European/North American vision is still privileged, because of better availability of data, relative size of these two market areas, still two thirds of total world consumption, and presence of world leader players. Other areas of the world, such as North America and Asia-Pacific, are mentioned when of interest, or to show comparisons with Europe.

Profiles and comments of about 200 film companies are given in this report, yet the writer is aware that only the surface has been scratched for the many emerging and fast growing players in China, other Asia, Latin America, Russia, and even Africa. There still is a vast area left for research in these geographical areas.

In general, expected growth for the next ten years is to continue very strong, a minimum average annual rate of 3-5% worldwide, much more in developing areas and for higher value and more sophisticated films still in the high growth phase of their development, like OPP, PET, nylon, and their innumerable combinations, multilayers, laminated, coextruded, coated and metallized.
